Once upon a time there were several companies which bought empty printer cartridges. These empties were cleaned, refurbished and refilled then sold as remanufactured cartridges. Printer cartridges are now remanufactured in lower cost countries such as China, Thailand and Indonesia, leading to the closure of local empty cartridge collection companies. Nowadays, printer cartridges are recycled with some being returned to the manufacturer for recycling of components, and others turned into other products (see "What Happens To The Printer Cartridges?).
To recycle your empty toner or ink cartridges, follow the instructions below.
Cartridges for Planet Ark accepts all brands of cartridges for recycling.
If you have more than 10 toner cartridges or 40 ink cartridges, call the Cartridges Hotline on 1800 24 24 73
If your workplace, business, community group, uni or school uses more than three (3) inkjet, toner cartridges or toner bottles in a month you may be eligible for a free 'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' collection box.
If you have a few empty cartridges, take them to your local post office where you will find a Cartridges For Planet Ark recycling bin, or you can find the nearest drop off facility for empty cartridges using the Recycling Near You website.
